Kathleen Newell earned her BA in Biology from SUNY Potsdam, her MS in Biology from SUNY Brockport and additional courses necessary for a NYS Teaching Certificate from Russell Sage College. Prior to her teaching career, Ms. Newell worked in the private sector as a biologist for engineering and land planning companies. Since 2002, Ms. Newell has been teaching General Science and Living Environment to 8th graders at Corinth Middle School. In addition to teaching responsibilities, she has served as a mentor for students and first year teachers, a cooperating teacher for student teachers, the Science Department chairperson, an advisor for the National Junior Honor Society and has served on numerous school committees. Outside of school, Ms. Newell enjoys skiing, snowshoeing, biking and kayaking. She volunteers at Double H Ranch as an adaptive ski instructor and as a Board of Governors member for a small lake association in Rensselaer County. As a NYS Master Teacher, Ms. Newell looks forward to participating in a wide variety of professional development opportunities and working to improve STEM education in her district.
