QUICK LINKS
March 15: NEW Information & Guidance

March 15, 2020 at 4:45 p.m.

Dear Corinth Families,

Although classes have been cancelled until April 17, the district will continue to communicate on a regular basis as we progress over the next few weeks. We encourage you to check the district’s website and your email for updated information. This letter provides direction on how we are moving forward for the week of March 16-20.

FOOD SERVICES

Boxed breakfasts and lunches will be available starting Monday, March 16 from 9 to 10 a.m. We will have staff available on the loading dock located at the front of the Middle School who will distribute meals. The service is free to all Corinth Central School District students who are 18 years old or younger. If you would like to participate in this service but are unable to secure transportation to the school, please call 518-654-9005, ext. 3114 and we will try to make arrangements to deliver food to your household. Due to the volume of calls we are likely to receive, please be prepared to leave a message with the following information:

  1. Age of each child in the household
  2. The best possible time to drop off the boxed meals
  3. Your home address
  4. Your contact information
  5. Any known allergies in the household

The CARE backpack program will also continue throughout this timeframe. Families involved in this program will be able to pick up backpacks on Friday, March 20 between 9 and 10 a.m. Again, if you are unable to secure transportation to the school, please call 518-654-9005, ext. 3114.

ACADEMIC RESOURCES

We are fortunate that our teachers have prepared academic resources for students to work on during this extended absence. For consistency, we strongly encourage families to establish a set schedule with their children that is similar to the one they follow during a normal school day. For example, determine a set time for math, writing, reading, science, social studies, art, etc. Please also ensure that your children are reading for a minimum of 30 minutes each day.

For elementary school children, there are packets of school work/materials for each grade level that can be picked up in the main entrance of the elementary school on Monday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you are unable to secure transportation to the school, we will arrange to get these materials to your household either via mail or delivery.

For middle school and high school students, the district has provided a Chromebook to each student. This will allow us to provide distance learning through a number of online platforms, primarily Google classroom. Attached to this letter is a list of the different access points for each teacher/class. If a family does not have internet access at home, Spectrum is offering to assist families with free internet service. You can contact them at 1-844-488-8398. If you feel you need paper copies of your school work, please call the HS/MS main offices to make arrangements.

Please note, the most up-to-date materials will be delivered and distributed digitally by each student's individual teachers. The teachers will be available during their normal school hours via email to communicate with students. Some teachers will also be using distance learning platforms to deliver live assistance through the extended class cancellation period. Students should use their school emails as the primary way to communicate with their teachers. We also encourage high school and middle school students to follow their normal school schedule and dedicate time each day to complete school work unless otherwise indicated.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORTS

Students and families may be experiencing heightened anxiety and concern as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop. With this in mind, our school counselors have developed a list of resources to assist families. Please refer to the following link for specific information and ways to contact the district counselors during this time: https://sites.google.com/corinthcsd.org/csdcounselingpage/home

Families of students who have medication stored at the school will be contacted on Monday, March 16 to make arrangements for the medications to be delivered to the child’s home. Please remember that you will need to bring new medications in for your children when school resumes as all current medications will be returned this week.

Lastly, the safety of our students and community is our primary concern and we ask that you refrain from visiting any of the school facilities, including fields and playgrounds, unless it is at the times and locations indicated above. The Health Department has also advised that students stay at home, avoid unnecessary travel and practice social distancing.

We greatly appreciate the support and assistance we have received thus far as we join together as a community to get through these unprecedented times. While there are still no confirmed cases of coronavirus in our district, we believe taking proactive measures to cancel classes and close our buildings for an extended period of time is the best course of action for our students, staff and community. Corinth, along with 31 other districts that make up the WSHWE BOCES, are heeding the advice and guidance provided by county, state and federal agencies and are doing our part to help reduce the spread of this disease. Your patience and understanding as we work through this is greatly appreciated. Please continue to check your email and our websites for updates.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mark R. Stratton
