Grades– Incoming 5th–8th

Week 1

Students will learn how to safely prepare foods in a kitchen. Knife skills, food safety, and proper sanitation will be covered. We will also cover food substitutions to make meals in a healthy way and discuss the amount of physical activity it will take to burn the foods we are preparing. If time allows, we may take walks around the community to see how long it takes to burn certain foods. It’s going to be a blast!


Course Name: Garage Band

Week 3

In this course, students will create beats, music, sound effects and work together to learn the GarageBand interface. We will cover the fundamental concepts of importing, adding, looping, and creating music using the digital instruments in the app.  Summer and music = FUN!


Course Name: iMovie

Class Size: 18

Week 4

Did you ever wish you could make those videos and trailers that you see on the Internet? Or turn your still pictures into a movie that is set to music?  Then this is the course for you! Students will learn the basics of importing photos and videos into iMovie, adding special effects and music, and making iMovie videos. YOU WILL BE A STAR!


Course Name: Introduction to French

Week 1

Students will explore an introduction to basic conversational français with games, videos and fun projects.  Additionally, we will explore the culture of countries and regions where French is spoken, including the sites, sounds and tastes of France, Canada and beyond. Nous parlons français!

Week 2

Students will explore an introduction to basic conversational español with games, videos and fun projects. Additionally, we will explore the culture of countries and regions where Spanish is spoken, including the sites, sounds and tastes of Spain, Mexico and beyond. ¡Nosotros hablamos español!


Course Name: Beginning Piano/Keyboard and Basic Theory for Reading and Playing Music

(Keyboards will be provided.)

Grades– Incoming 9th–12th

July 12–22, 2021

Students will learn how to read in treble and bass clef at the same time. We will learn to play music with both right and left hands and learn chords and basic chord progressions to get students playing songs they recognize in a quicker fashion. Students will also learn to play together in a group ensemble setting and establish resource and online access programs to help continue with their goals in learning to play piano/keyboard.


Course Name: Beginning Piano/Keyboard Class

Grades– Incoming 5th–8th

Weeks 4 & 5

This class is geared for beginner students who want to learn how to play the piano/keyboard. Students will learn to read music notation in both the treble and bass clefs and they will learn piano techniques using both the left and right hands. In addition, students will learn to use keyboard features and note names and will learn basic chords to play along with some of the student’s favorite songs. Finally, students will play rock, pop, classical, and other music genres together in a piano ensemble, and as soloists, and learn how to compose their own music melodies. Instruction will be designed to meet the students where they are at musically and set individualized goals.  BECOME A ROCK STAR!


Course Name: Space Exploration

Space exploration is one of the most cutting edge industries today and could have a huge impact on the future! We’re heading to space where students will use STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) skills to build, explore, learn and have a blast. Each day, students will learn about space by completing new challenges and hands-on activities. If you are ready to explore space, your mission awaits!


Course Name: Beginning Acoustic Guitar and Basic Theory for Reading and Playing Music

Grades– Incoming 9th–12th

July 12–22, 2021

In this course, students will learn to read music in treble clef. Students will play music using proper technique on the acoustic guitar and learn chords and basic chord progressions to begin playing songs they recognize in a quicker fashion. We will also play together in a group ensemble setting. We will establish resource and online access programs to help students continue with their individual goals in learning to play guitar.


Course Name: Clay and Watercolors

Class Size: 20

Location: Room 312

Grades– Incoming 5th–8th

Weeks 1 and 2

At the start of our program, we will begin with a few clay projects; a decorative ceramic box, as well as choices to make a second, smaller piece. Making art from clay takes some time to allow for the drying, firing, and glazing process. While our clay artworks are in various stages of development, we will work on a watercolor landscape. Student will learn to work with watercolor materials and learn some basic watercolor techniques. If the weather cooperates, we will go outside and practice some of our skills in the real world. EXPLORE THE WORLD OF ART!


Course Name: Artistic Eye Drawing Using Colored Pencils

Class Size: 20

Location: Room 312

Grades– Incoming 5th–8th

Week 3

During this session students will learn some advanced blending techniques using colored pencil, as well as how to construct and color an interesting eye. For the final art project, students will have the option of creating a large realistic eye or an artistic designed eye of their own, with beautiful color blending.
