Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
We are writing to provide details regarding the implementation of the Distraction-Free Learning Law at Corinth Central School District. Thank you to the students and community members who shared their thoughts through our recent survey. Using your feedback, along with the requirements of the new law, we have developed the following procedures for the upcoming school year.
In our ongoing effort to create a focused, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment, students will no longer be permitted to use or carry internet-enabled devices during the school day. We strongly recommend that students leave their devices at home as the best way to comply with this law.
Procedures
The district is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal devices and strongly encourages students to leave all devices at home.
Any student who brings a device to school must enter the building with the device turned off and go directly to their locker.
Devices must be stored in school-issued lockers and remain off for the entire school day. Students may not carry devices on their person.
Students may not return to their lockers during class periods and should gather all needed materials beforehand.
Students with open campus privileges may store their phones in the office and retrieve them only when signing out. Phones must be returned to the office upon signing back in.
If a student is found in possession of a device during the school day:
The student will immediately need to bring the device to the office.
A parent or guardian must pick-up the student's device.
Progressive consequences for repeated violations will include:
1st Violation: Parent pick-up device and verbal warning
2nd Violation: Parent pick-up device and detention
3rd Violation: Parent pick-up device, extended detention, and daily phone check-in at the office for the remainder of the school year
Further Violations: Parent pick-up device and extended detention
Students who refuse to turn in a device when asked will be considered insubordinate and disciplined according to the school’s Code of Conduct.
Communication During the School Day
If you need to contact your student, please call the main office, and we will ensure your message is delivered promptly.
A school phone is also available in the main lobby for students to contact parents or guardians if needed.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this policy at home. Our shared goal is to foster an environment that prioritizes learning and minimizes distractions. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Eric Schenone
