Community Safety Reminder: Help Keep Our Students Safe

As the school year continues and the days get longer, Corinth Central School District would like to remind families and community members to remain cautious and alert during school commuting hours. Whether you’re behind the wheel, on a bike, or walking near our school zones, safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Walking and Biking Safety
With more students choosing to walk or ride bikes, please remind children to use sidewalks when available, cross at designated areas, and wear helmets and bright or reflective clothing. Drivers should watch for pedestrians and cyclists, especially near crosswalks and intersections.

Use of Crosswalks
Drivers must yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks. Blocking crosswalks or rushing through intersections creates unsafe situations for our students.

Stopping for School Buses
New York State law requires all vehicles to stop in both directions when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. Failing to stop can endanger children and result in significant penalties.

Arrival and Dismissal Caution
Traffic around our schools can be heavy during arrival and dismissal. Please remain patient, follow staff instructions, stay in designated lines, and wait your turn. A few extra minutes can prevent an accident and ensure everyone's safety.

Speeding in School Zones
Always adhere to posted speed limits in school zones. Reducing your speed even slightly can make a major difference in preventing injuries.

Playground Use After School Hours
The playgrounds are a wonderful community resource, but we ask that all visitors use them responsibly. Parents and guardians should supervise children playing after school hours to ensure safety and proper behavior. Please respect school property and clean up after use to keep the area safe and enjoyable for everyone. Please Note: The playground is closed from dusk to dawn.

We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to student safety. Let’s all do our part to keep our roads, sidewalks, school zones, and playgrounds safe for everyone.
