Kindergarten students recently took part in a special social-emotional learning (SEL) “Switch Day,” a collaborative event organized by the Kindergarten Team and Elementary School Counselor Mrs. Barnum. The day offered students a unique and engaging opportunity to practice essential social-emotional skills through a series of fun, hands-on activities.
During the event, all kindergarten classes were mixed together and rotated between classrooms, where they participated in a variety of purposeful activities. These included emotions charades, teamwork hot potato, a yoga and mindfulness practice, and a CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) word cooperation game. Each station was thoughtfully designed to build important skills such as teamwork, cooperation, emotional regulation, and feelings identification.
The interactive format encouraged students to work with peers outside their usual classroom groups, helping to build new connections and reinforce the value of empathy, patience, and collaboration.
The Kindergarten Switch Day is part of the school’s broader commitment to supporting the whole child through both academic and emotional learning. Judging by the smiles and laughter heard throughout the event, it was a great success — and a meaningful step in helping students grow into kind, confident learners.
