New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) recognized the Corinth Central School District as part of its Champions of Change program, highlighting the district’s innovative Healthy Meals Initiative.
The recognition came after NYSSBA identified Corinth’s efforts to expand access to nutritious meals while modernizing its food service operations as a model program for schools across the state. To commemorate the achievement, a colorful Champions of Change banner was presented during a special gathering at Corinth Elementary School.
Eric Randall, Editor-in-Chief of NYSSBA, attended the event to formally present the banner. He was introduced by Superintendent Dr. Stratton, who addressed students and staff and spoke to the impact of the district’s continued investment in student wellness.
A key component of the initiative has been the strategic use of grant funding to enhance the district’s food service program. Among the awards received was the Healthy Meals Incentives Grant for Small and/or Rural School Food Authorities, which supported the conversion of two full-service cafeteria lines into efficient, student-friendly self-service stations. These improvements have increased accessibility while encouraging students to make healthy food choices.
The recognition also honored Lisa Tevendale and her team for their leadership and dedication in bringing the initiative to life. Following the presentation, members of the Corinth Elementary School Student Council took the stage to share their favorite cafeteria offerings, adding a student voice to the celebration.
Corinth Central School District expressed its gratitude to NYSSBA for the honor and commended Ms. Tevendale and the entire food service staff for their hard work and commitment to expanding opportunities for students through improved nutrition and innovative practices.
