Grade 2 Scientists at Work!
Our second graders explored weathering last week through a hands-on investigation that helped them see how wind, water and ice can slowly break down rocks and shape the Earth’s surface.
Students observed, compared and recorded the changes they noticed, acting just like real scientists! Their work aligns with the New York State P–12 Science Learning Standards including:
Science & Engineering Practices:
âś“ Making observations
âś“ Recording data
âś“ Describing patterns
âś“ Collaborating with peers during an investigation
Our young learners loved discovering how the world around them is constantly changing! The photos say it all! (Thank you to Ms. Winters for the great photos! More photos on Facebook!)

Over these next two weeks, our school community will focus on the character strength of Gratitude. Gratitude means being aware of and grateful for good things that happen.
Gratitude is about feeling and showing thankfulness. It helps us see the good in others and in the world. People with gratitude are ready to appreciate and return kindness. Expert Robert Emmons says gratitude strengthens relationships because it makes us recognize how others support us.
Out of all 24 character strengths, gratitude is the single best predictor of individual well-being. It is linked to more energy, empathy, happiness, and optimism. The good news is that gratitude can be practiced and strengthened like a muscle. The more we practice it, the more benefits we get.
To practice and encourage this strength at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families:

We encourage you to ask your students about their social emotional learning curriculum daily lessons, discussions and activities for the character strength: GRATITUDE.
Have a good week!

During the month of October, our high school physical education classes completed a series of physical fitness assessments. Each test carried a point value. At the end of the unit, Coach Bowe and Coach Minholz totaled the scores to identify the top performers in each grade. We recognized the top five girls and boys at every grade level, posting their scores in the locker rooms and gym. Each of these students also received a shirt to celebrate their achievements.
We are proud of all of our high school students for their outstanding effort and dedication throughout this unit. Thank you for your hard work and serving as role models for your peers!

CES Riverhawk Paleontologists in Action!
Check out our amazing elementary students creating their very own trace fossils! They are learning how scientists use clues like footprints, trails and burrows to figure out what ancient life was like. Just like real paleontologists, our students are making observations and drawing conclusions from the evidence they leave behind! This hands-on activity directly connects to the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards for elementary grades:
NYS Science Standard Connection:
3-LS4-1. Analyze and interpret data from fossils to provide evidence of the organisms and the environments in which they lived long ago.
The activity reinforces the Idea that fossils provide evidence about the types of organisms that lived long ago and also about the nature of their environments. By making their own "fossil" tracks, students are gaining firsthand experience in how scientists analyze and interpret data to learn about extinct organisms and the habitats where they lived.
We are proud of our students! Thank you to Ms. Streim for facilitating such an exciting hands-on learning activity for our students!

Kaden Wright is exploring a career in electrical and HVAC services. This fall, he has been learning hands-on skills with LaPan's Precision and Murphy Electrical Services. In December, he will expand his experience even further with Adirondack Technical Services as he continues to investigate this valuable career path.
Jonathan Reynolds is serving as an Information Technology Intern with our CCSD Tech Team. Working alongside Mr. Ben Badaszewski and Mrs. Giaculli, Jonathan is building the skills needed to support our district’s wide network of educational technology. He has even been trained on the new Oak Street Auditorium technology! We are grateful for his contributions and proud of the work that he is doing with two of the best in the business.
Congratulations to both Kaden and Jonathan on their hard work and dedication as they pursue their career goals!
Interested in exploring career opportunities through an internship? CHS students can reach out to Mrs. Fay, our CHS Career Exploration Internship Program Coordinator, for more information! Thank you for all that you do to facilitate these valuable educational experiences, Mrs. Fay!

Last week, our CHS Sports Marketing students visited MetLife Stadium for an incredible behind-the-scenes tour and career exploration event sponsored by the New York Jets.
Students heard from industry professionals about career pathways, internship opportunities, and the importance of “networking now” to build a strong foundation for future success in sports business.
Throughout the day, they explored some of the stadium’s most exclusive areas, including the Commissioner’s Club, NFL locker rooms, press rooms, and luxury suites and even stepped onto the field where the Jets and Giants play their home games!
A huge thank you to MetLife Stadium and the NY Jets for hosting this inspiring and educational experience! Thank you to Mrs. Fay and our CCSD Transportation Department for making this field trip possible!

Our Grade 3 students dove into learning during their recent trip to the Via Aquarium in Schenectady, part of their ELA unit “Why Scientists Explore the Sea!”
From local river habitats to vibrant ocean ecosystems, students explored an incredible variety of aquatic life. They especially loved the stingray touch tank and feeding the carp fish, experiences that truly brought their reading to life!
Hands-on adventures like this help connect classroom learning to the real world, sparking curiosity and a deeper understanding of marine science.
A big thank you to our Grade 3 team for organizing this memorable and meaningful field trip!

On November 4th, student leaders from across Saratoga County came together for the Student Leadership Conference: “Empowering Students to Make Positive Choices” hosted by the Prevention Council of Saratoga County.
The event brought together members of local S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) chapters to focus on the importance of making healthy, informed decisions around substance use.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in interactive workshops, team-building activities and discussions designed to strengthen their leadership skills and equip them to be positive role models within their schools and communities.
Thank you to the students who participated and CHS S.A.D.D. Advisor, Mrs. Winslow, for facilitating this field trip!
A shout out to the Prevention Council for the invitation to this valuable day of student empowerment, connections and learning!
