Our Boys Varsity Soccer team put another win in the book last night! Here are some great game highlights from Coach Deso:
"The Riverhawks took the field last night at Argyle with purpose and determination. After having an early misstep that would put them behind by one at halftime, these resilient young men stepped onto the pitch in the second half with a mission in mind. The team performed beautifully, with crisp touches, creating passing lanes and numerous scoring opportunities.
Five minutes in, Sean Ward and Logan West put on a technical passing clinic, which would ultimately result in Sean finding space on the end line, who would go on to deliver a crisp pass to Tyler Smolinski on the 18, sailing it to the back of the net to even the score at one. Five minutes later, Sean and Logan would continue their passing clinic, replicating the same route, but this time Sean would find an awaiting Aiden Wentworth, who would notch the second goal on the evening for the Riverhawks. Corinth remained stout on defense, and turned several would-be Argyle attacks away, with strong defensive play from Lucca Giaculli, Alex Wiseman and Michael Petteys.
Owen Baker would make some clutch saves in net to keep the Scots off the board in the second half. Sam Tangora drew a number of fouls in favor of the Riverhawks tonight with his hard-nosed play at midfield, and Hunter Shanahan made many fine runs up the line to keep the ball favorably in the Riverhawk half for the better part of the contest.
This relentless group of young men have now posted a league record of 10-2-0, and an 11-4-0 record overall, breaking all existing Corinth soccer records, and producing the finest season in Corinth boys soccer history... as a team, they have so much to be proud of!
They will now take the field one final time this Friday at 4:30pm where they will host a second game against Argyle in a crossover contest. From there, they patiently wait to see who they will take on in the first round of the sectional tournament next week- time, opponent and location to be determined.
Please continue to support this phenomenal group of young athletes... they continue to work so very hard, and their coaches, school and community are incredibly proud of all that has been achieved to date... keep it going, fellas!"

Way to go, RIVERHAWKS!!! Come out and cheer them on to keep the energy going!!!

News from our CCSD Athletics Program:
Congratulations to last week's athletes of the week.
Samantha Petteys is a senior captain on the volleyball team who runs the offense in the setting position. Sam leads the team in assists and is a top contributor to service points and aces. Her leadership during games, practices and in the classroom is noticeable. Great job Samantha!
Parker Duerr-Clark and Gage Bardin are 8th graders who both contributed to the success of our varsity golf team. Gage as the #5 golfer was undefeated this season and scored some huge points for his team this season. Parker moved up to the #3 spot and won 7 matches and tied one match. These young men show that the future is bright for our young golf team.
Reece Breheny is a member of our fall cheerleading squad. Reece shows up at every practice ready to put in the work to improve her skills. As a dedicated athlete, Reece came to our summer clinic and learned many skills that she now brings to the team. We are very happy to have such a kind and positive athlete on our team.

Our Modified Volleyball team is on a hot streak! Here are some match highlights from Coach Reppucci:

"Girls Modified Volleyball secured the win again! Two nights in a row, the girls have won their matches!

The Girls beat Granville in two quick sets. Addie Cook served 8 aces in the first set and got the team 10 service points in the second!

Emma Havens was unstoppable and wouldn’t let a ball hit the ground. With the help of Addie Cook, the pair were an unstoppable defensive team.

Maddie Nelson, Annabell O’Brien and Cinthia Elvira were also all stars tonight, and helped the team win with multiple service points and aces from all three of the girls.

Sophia Nicolas and Maddie Nelson were big blockers and hitters at the net, and wouldn’t let anything come on our side with some big blocks!

The team now has a record of 4-2 and will play Argyle on Tuesday at home! Come support the Riverhawks in their first home game and watch them continue to dominate!"

Congratulations, RIVERHAWKS!!

Our Boys Varsity Soccer Team notched another win in their epic season of soccer! Here are some highlights from Coach Deso:

"The Riverhawks rolled to a 10-0 victory over the young North Warren Cougars team this afternoon. Five different players scored, including a game-high four goals for Riverhawk Hunter Shanahan, followed by Tyler Smolinski with a hat trick, while senior MJ Sprague scored his second goal in as many games.

Other highlights included a beautiful missile sent from 20 yards out by Aiden Wentworth that found home far post upper 90's, and the highlight of the game for the Riverhawks came when sophomore Sam Nelson had a beautiful finish and his first goal as a varsity player off a well-placed service from Michael Petteys.

Owen Baker earned his 5th shutout on the season, collecting 4 saves on the evening in net. This group of outstanding gentlemen now move to 9-1-0 in the league, and 10-3-0 overall and will travel to Lake George to face the Lakers on Columbus Day. Please take the time to come support the team... this is a huge game, and we would love your support!"

Congratulations, RIVERHAWKS!!! Good luck on Monday on the road!!!

It was another big win over Hartford for the Varsity Boys Soccer team at their CHS Homecoming Game last night! Here are highlights from Coach Deso:

"After making some adjustments following a slow start, the Riverhawks would find their groove under the lights to help celebrate Homecoming Week. About 12 minutes into the contest, senior defender Alex Wiseman decided it was time to take matters into his own hands. Beating a number of defenders, he worked his way down the sideline, across the end line, and struck a low liner near post, beating the keeper to put Corinth on the board.
A short five minutes later, Aiden Wentworth would find a streaking Tyler Smolinski who would beat a defender and send a laser far post to put the Riverhawks up by two. In the second half, the Riverhawks made a number of improvements to their shape, and were able to take the field with renewed purpose. Defender Hunter Shanahan received a ball wide, was able to artfully carry the ball down the line, then push across the endline, ultimately finding Tristan Lozier, who would bury the ball in the back of the net to increase the Riverhawk lead.
With just under five minutes remaining, Corinth senior MJ Sprague found another gear, running through a defender, then finding Tyler Smolinski, who would notch his second goal of the evening to put the Riverhawks up by three. Sprague was not done yet, and with just six seconds remaining in regulation, reminded us all that the work is never finished until the final seconds have ticked off the clock. He ran through the defense, collected a ball that was mishandled by the keeper, and put one more goal in for the Riverhawks, punctuating their 5-1 victory, now bringing their league record to 8-1-0.

On Friday, the Riverhawks host North Warren at 4:30 on our home field... please come support these gentlemen for their last home league contest.... our final two games of the season will be on the road!" Congratulations, RIVERHAWKS!! We wish you continued success this season! (Photos from the game will be shared on our Facebook page this weekend! Stay tuned...)
