"The modified girls basketball team had a great win over Fort Ann last week with points from Makenna Eastman, Ellison Emery, Callie Rigley, Sydnee Mosher and Olivia Dymond. It was a full team effort defensively holding Fort Ann to just 10 points to seal the win.
Congratulations to the modified girls basketball team who wrapped up their season on Monday night with an 8-5 record! A strong defense and balanced offense helped the Riverhawks get to a winning season. All 14 players improved throughout the season and Coach Cross could not be more proud! We will see you next year!"

February is the National “Love The Bus” month. It is a time to share our message of safety to our students, celebrate our success, and demonstrate why we “Love The Bus.”

The American School Bus Council launched a program back in 2007 to highlight the important role of the school bus and to show appreciation for the monitors and drivers who safely transport more than 25 million children to and from school each day.

School bus transportation is one of the safest and most secure ways to transport children to and from school. Our bus drivers are dedicated to the safe transportation of our students with the most secure vehicles on the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, school buses are up to 70% safer than other vehicles.

February’s “Love The Bus” campaign gives our Transportation Department another opportunity to work with our students on bus safety. Our drivers and monitors will be conducting safety drills, how to cross with the driver’s signal, and explaining why it’s important to exhibit good behavior on the bus.

To add a little fun, drivers will also have student contests. Students are encouraged to color a “Love The Bus” picture for their driver or write on a card why they “Love The Bus.” The bus that submits the most pictures or cards will receive a coupon for free ice cream from the cafeteria. Be sure to encourage your child to return their coloring sheet or post card. We are also giving an ice cream coupon to students that have the cleanest bus. Encourage your child to leave all their belongings in their backpacks so that nothing is left behind. Children often remove clothing like hats and mittens, papers and projects from their bags and forget them on the floor or seat. Contest award coupons will be given out on Friday, February 16th to the two winning buses, one for the most coloring/card sheets and one for the cleanest bus in the fleet.

Please help us celebrate month and the dedicated drivers and monitors that transport your children to and from school.

Interested in Becoming a Bus Driver or Monitor?

Do you love children? Are you interested in working in your own community? We provide paid training to obtain your CDL License on a fully automatic bus. We will even let you test drive a bus to see for yourself how easy it is to drive. We currently have six open positions with training scheduled for this April and June. Benefits include health and dental insurance, holiday pay, joining the New York State Retirement System, weekends and holidays off.

If you have questions, would like to schedule a test drive or apply, please contact Mel or Mike at the transportation department, 518-654-2231, or email routing@corinthcsd.org “ Love The Bus”

Let's give a huge shout out to our CCSD Transportation Department! Thank you for all that you do for our students! Give your driver a shout out in the comments on Facebook!

Our Girls Varsity Basketball team put another "W" in the book and now move on to high stakes games. Coach Hoertkorn shared some highlights from last night:

"The Varsity girls basketball team picked up a win in the semi- finals last night against #4 seed Luzerne. It was another total team effort, and after only leading by two points at the end of the first quarter, we outscored Luzerne 29-10 in the second and third. We really stepped up our defense and held Luzerne's top scorers in check. Whitney Cameron led all scorers with 18 points. She also had 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
Emily Dingmon followed with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Taylor Stone had a great game as well with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist. Cailtyn Crossman was huge for us at the top of our press as we really increased our pressure getting tips that led to steals for the team. She had 5 points, 9 rounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
I would also like to add a special congratulations to Emily Dingmon for recording her 1,000th career rebound recently. She now has over 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds, truly an incredible achievement.
I am so beyond proud of this team who have been working so hard all year to get to this point. They play for each other and want to get better so the team is successful. It has been an honor to coach such a selfless group of athletes. We would also like to thank all the students, staff, and families who have been following our team, and filling the stands at games. We so appreciate everyone's support! Our next game is the Adirondack League Championship this Saturday 2/10 at 5pm, at Hudson Falls high school against Hartford!"
Let's fill the gym and show our Riverhawks our school spirit as they battle for the league title! Go, RIVERHAWKS!!

Dear CCSD Families, This week our school community is focusing on the Other People Mindset of Cheering Others’ Successes. This means when other people succeed, I am happy for them and cheer them on.

Being happy for other people when they succeed isn’t always everyone’s initial reaction. Often, it’s easy to become jealous or envious of others’ victories -- or even to experience schadenfreude, which is deriving pleasure from witnessing (or learning about) another person’s misfortune. People who have these reactions to the success or misfortune of others are colloquially known as “haters.” It’s important to note that these are natural emotions and in small doses can be helpful in allowing us to see what we care about -- and motivate us to pursue those goals.

But making a commitment towards cheering on other people’s successes can be a great way to improve our own health, happiness, and relationships. People can take active steps to be more genuinely happy for the achievements of others. Ways to do this include; telling others about the success of your modest friend; noticing when your reaction to a sibling’s success is envy or jealousy -- and asking yourself why that is; reminding yourself that appreciating the excellence in another is a character strength; asking your successful teammates and classmates what they do to prepare for games or tests.

Being supportive of people who succeed is good for our mental, physical, and emotional well-being and when people cheer each other on it begins a reciprocal process that forges stronger relationships. Those relationships are the foundation for a strong culture in teams, schools, and businesses.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your student, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you can watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

Have a wonderful week!
