BIG NEWS FROM OUR CHS MUSIC DEPARTMENT: Congratulations to Degan Reynolds, Sydney Crombach and Tristan Lozier on an outstanding Skidmore College Concert Band Performance.
Throughout the fall semester, these three student musicians along with Mrs. Crombach and Miss Lueck have been rehearsing with the Skidmore College Concert Band every Thursday night and on Sunday, December 3rd they performed on stage at the Arthur Zankel Music Center. Mrs. Crombach has been bringing students to Skidmore for the past couple of years as an effort to enrich and challenge some of her more accomplished student musicians. These students will be back for the Spring semester beginning at the end of January with a performance at the end of April. It is truly a unique experience for these students to perform alongside their teachers, community members and Skidmore College students and we look forward to continuing the partnership in the future. #CorinthisCommunity

Dear CCSD Families,

This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Supporting Others When They Struggle. This means when other people are struggling, we do our best to help them out.

Supporting other people when they struggle is a critical piece of being human. There are many different approaches to helping people who are struggling. These can include: listening while they describe an event and their feelings about it, taking action to help people in need, or simply just being there and sitting together in silence. Everyone faces tough days and needs support, and this support leads to a chain of prosocial behavior that makes us feel good about ourselves and our group.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families where together you can watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

We hope that you will ask your student about the lessons, discussions and activities this week!
Have a wonderful week!

Wednesday, December 6th is WORLD TRAVELER WEDNESDAY in our Oak Street Cafeteria! This month, we are traveling to Sudan to try traditional native foods in honor of Mrs. Bardin's 7th grade ELA class!
Students are embarking on a new unit of journeys and survival as they explore the novel A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. Students will learn about the experiences of the people of Southern Sudan as they follow the story of Salva Dut, a lost boy who persevered and never gave up hope when he became a refugee during Sudan's second civil war.
Please encourage your student to try the new cuisine that our talented cafeteria staff will be preparing!
Interesting facts about Sudan:
1) Sudan is home to more pyramids than Egypt!
2) It was once the largest country in Africa!
3) In 1963, Jacques Cousteau set up the Continental Shelf Station Two, an underwater research center off the coast of Sudan.
4) Sudan is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The Sanganeb Marine National Park and Dungonab Bay – Mukkawar Island Marine National Park have a variety of marine life. The Dinder National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Africa and is home to a diverse array of wild animals and birds.

Hoops for the Holidays 2023 was a huge success!
Our annual event brings our school and community together in a tremendous effort to raise funds to help brighten the holidays for families in need.
A big shout out to our Athletic Director, Coach Hilary Haskell, Head Basketball Coach, Craig Falkenbury, all of our basketball coaches, players, cheerleaders and volunteers who helped to make this event possible!
In addition to players shooting for their pledges, there were games, raffles and fun for all who filled the gym Thursday evening!
A fan favorite is always the "Pie a Staff Member" event! Thank you to Mr. Pomerville, Mrs. Briner, Coach Suppes, Coach Fabian, Coach Bowe and Coach Lemelin for being such great sports for the cause!
We thank all who donated, pledged our athletes, participated in the event and helped to make this herculean effort to raise funds a success.
Hoops for the Holidays is another example of how we model The Positivity Project and #ChooseKindness lessons for and with our students!
(A full list of thank you acknowledgements and the grand total raised is coming soon!)

Our Boys Varsity Basketball team participated in a great community event today, earning the win! Here are some highlights from Coach Falkenbury:
"The Corinth River Hawks Boys Varsity Basketball team jumped to a 21 to 6 lead after the first quarter en route to beating Galway 66 to 38 in a Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Classic game at Fulton Montgomery Community College this morning. There were contributions from each member of the team.
The leading scorers were Kaden Wright with 21 points, Hunter Shanahan with 12 points, Josh Colson with 9 points, and Avery Wood and Braydin Stone both added 8 points a piece.
The boys are a fun group to watch play. Their next game is Friday December 8th, as they open the Adirondack League season on the road against Lake George at 6:00 PM."
We wish our boys varsity River Hawks basketball team a great season!!!

Our CHS Band participated in a great regional experience recently! Here are a few highlights from Mrs. Crombach:
"Each year, the Northeast Instrumental Music Festival (NEIMF) brings together student musicians from northern NY and Vermont in an immersive 4 day music festival, lead by local musician and music educator, Michael Craner. This year, eight of our high school musicians were accepted to represent CCSD: Madeline Baldes, flute; Riley Mattison, flute; Lila Riihimaki, clarinet; Sydney Crombach, tenor, sax; Tristan Lozier, tenor, sax; Degan Reynolds, French horn; David Eddy, trombone, and David Frye, euphonium.
These students arrived at the Courtyard Marriott on Thursday afternoon to audition for seating and begin rehearsing together. Friday was a long day and had the students working with specialists in sectional rehearsals as well as full ensemble rehearsals. On Saturday the students were treated to an open rehearsal by the Great American Community Band, where the students had the opportunity to ask questions of the adult members. After this, the students were treated to a fun activity at Lake George Lanes and games where they celebrated the group's efforts. The weekend culminated with the concert on Sunday and our students parted ways with their newfound friends.
Sunday we donned our concert attire and the students gave an outstanding performance, ending the weekend’s festivities. We are so proud of how hard our students worked and all that they were able to accomplish in such a short time! Big thanks to Mr. Schenone, the Board of Education, Mrs. Crombach and Miss Lueck for making this possible for our students!"

Winter sports are off to a great start! Our Girls Varsity Basketball Team kicked off their season with a win! Here are highlights from Coach Hoertkorn:

"The Varsity girls basketball team picked up a non- league win over an improved Galway team last night. It was a great team effort, especially on the defensive end. Whitney Cameron led all scorers with 18 points, while adding 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Riley Dumas showed great leadership and composure, especially on the defensive end communicating and helping our younger players. She also had 3 assists and 2 steals.
Chloe Hall, Isabella Craig, and Kenadee Flint all had their first Varsity baskets, and stepped up huge on the defensive end.
Taylor Stone and Caitlyn Crossman were huge inside for us making adjustments when necessary. Caitlyn also had 9 rebounds, and did the little things to help us maintain possession or force a Galway turnover.
We are so proud of the team getting their first win, and being able to handle the pressure in a close game. Our next game is Monday 12/4 at Northville."

Way to go, Lady Riverhawks!!
