Our 4th grade team facilitated a very exciting interactive learning presentation: Birds of Prey!
"The fourth grade students were able to learn about birds of prey, how to keep themselves and injured animals safe, adaptations, and what to look for in our surroundings. We were able to view and learn about the Screech Owl, Alpa Medo Falcon, Barred Owl, Vulture, and the Eurasian Tiger Owl. Trish and Dave were wonderful presenters."

Mr. Citro's Physics students were recently testing the principles of 2 Dimensional Kinematics. The goal is to hit a target with a marble using data collection principles and experimental design. Then, place a target on the floor and give it a shot for a quiz grade. They are not allowed to shoot until they place their target. We had one group get a 100 on their first try. Many groups were successful. Photo credit: Mr. Citro

Our CHS students enrolled in our college Spanish course recently wrapped up a cultural unit that culminated in projects and presentations in the language. Here are some highlights from Señora Mullin:
"After studying the Day of the Dead holiday and how it is celebrated in Mexico, each Spanish 102 student had to create a memorial and digital presentation to remember a person in their family, a friend, animal or famous person that has passed away. They then had to create an altar to honor the person or pet they chose. The altar demonstrated their understanding of what is typically found on Mexican altars for the Day of the Dead.
They finished the project presenting their presentations and altars to the class all in Spanish. They did an amazing job, I am very proud of the effort they put into the project as a whole."

Today is WORLD TRAVELER WEDNESDAY! Our cafeterias are serving up a delicious Chinese meal today! Encourage your student to try our multicultural meal created by our amazing food services staff! (Reminder: Lunch and breakfast meals are free to all students this year!)

Did you know that the mortar used to build the Great Wall contained sticky rice? Did you know that China is about the same size as the continental USA but it only has one official time zone? Continental USA has four. Did you know that China's giant pandas are good swimmers?

Check out more interesting facts about China from National Geographic Kids:

CCSD is exploring the character strength: GRATITUDE in The Positivity Project Social Emotional Learning lessons, discussions and activities this week and next week.
Modeling gratitude, 3 of our students who attended Boys and Girls State last spring accepted the invitation to the American Legion Veterans Day dinner. Our students were acknowledged, celebrated and were able to thank the veterans for their sponsorship of their great leadership experience.
A tip of the hat to Matthew Sprague, Duncan Peterson and Athena Macqueen for representing CHS and making us proud! You are great role models for your peers! #PositivityinAction
