Our 2nd grade students were treated to a great day in Corinth as part of their social studies/civics lesson! Our teachers shared highlights from their "walking field trip:"
"Second Graders learned all about communities and people who live and work there. We took a walk around the community to learn about Corinth history and different businesses that provide goods and services. Rocco’s, who provides goods for the community, graciously donated a slice of pizza each to our second graders! What a fun field trip!"
Thank you to Rocco's for making this lesson extra special!
A shout out to the 2nd grade team for helping our students to learn about our wonderful Corinth community!

Attention, CES families! Please see a copy of the November newsletter from Mrs. Connor and Mrs. Dickinson linked below! It is filled with a lot of important information, photos from recent events and upcoming dates of importance! Please take some time to review it with your family by clicking the link here: https://secure.smore.com/n/vc2j0

Dear CCSD Families,
This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Bravery. Bravery means you act with mental, moral, or physical strength, even when you know things are difficult or scary.
Bravery refers to voluntary (not coerced) action in the face of a dangerous circumstance. This strength involves judgment; the brave person must have an understanding of the risks and consequences involved in acting. According to Socrates and Plato, forethought separates acts of valor from acts of rashness. This means that bravery isn’t simply fearlessness but instead the overcoming of fear.
Overcoming fears is critically important in individual development, as it allows the person to do more and become more. A person can be brave every single day. For example, some people with social anxiety are brave just by leaving their houses and talking with people. On a physical level, bravery allows us to overcome fears, such as swimming or playing a sport. And, on a moral level, doing what we know to be right, despite the risks, gives us the sense that we are acting on behalf of a larger purpose.
To practice and encourage the character strength of bravery at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly website: https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/ where you can watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions.
Thank you for your support of our Social Emotional Learning curriculum! We hope that you will ask your students about the daily lessons, discussions and activities this week about bravery!

CHS alumnus (class of 2008), Blake Saunders, visited Mrs. Fay's Criminal Justice/Personal Law class this week to speak with students on the pathway to becoming a lawyer. Blake spoke of the educational prerequisites and the required testing before, during, and after his education to become a lawyer. His message also included what he believes to be the most important skills in achieving success in any career: networking, reputation and education.
Mr. Saunders advised students to get involved with outside clubs and athletic activities as part of their education. He also encouraged students to believe in themselves and that they can achieve their goals with hard work and determination.
Thank you for sharing your time, expertise and passion with our students as they explore career options for the future.

Our JV Volleyball Team wrapped up a very successful season this week. Coach Parker shared highlights from the final match of the season:
"The JV girls volleyball team ended the season on a win. They beat Mayfield last to end the season with a record of 10-5. The team went down losing the first set, but battled back and won the next two convincingly. The team was led by Addy Cook who had 13 service points and 7 aces. Maya Lynne Bedell had 6 service points and 3 aces. Cinthina Elvira, Lauren Rhodes played solid defense at the net and attacked the ball well. Angelica Nicholas and Charity Prosser also added to the attack by constantly putting the opposing team under pressure. Kiera Winchip played a crucial role in not only setting, but also passing the ball out of the back.
Another true team victory, where each girl stepped up to help secure the win. This team continued to grow throughout the season. I am incredibly proud of them."
Great job, Riverhawks! We look forward to seeing you on the court next season!

The 4th grade recently went on a field trip to Moreau State Park to enhance their science curriculum. Mrs. Fuller shared some photos and highlights from her class:
"Students followed a rotating schedule where they were able to enjoy a teacher-led hike while looking for signs of animal life, discussing adaptations, and ways to help the environment. A nature center guide helped them find beaver lodges. She taught them about the living things in the park, why certain things happen in nature, such as leaves changing colors, and why they are certain shapes, and answered many questions. At the learning center, the students learned more about the animals that live in our area, how to advocate for animals as well as the harm in keeping animals from nature as pets. It was a very fun trip!"
Kudos to our 4th grade team for making this outdoor learning experience possible!

We have exciting news to share from our World Language Department:
Over the summer, Alison Toth was accepted for admission into the NSHSS (The National Society of High School Scholars) This prestigious society recognizes learners with a commitment to academic excellence as they prepare to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Mr. Petteys nominated Alison in the spring and says this: "Alison is a top-achiever in French class as well as in all of her other courses. I had never, at that point in my career, had a student that took her studies so seriously and who excelled so far as a result. Her French class last year resembled a Freshman or Sophomore level college class. I enjoyed teaching her upper level grammar and vocabulary. I know she will excel in her Senior Year and in life. Bon job et bonne chance!"
Alison is enrolled in French 4 at CHS this year and earning college credit with Madame Mullin! Congratulations, Alison! Keep up the great work! Photos courtesy of Mr. Petteys
