It was an exciting sectional game for our Boys Varsity Soccer team this evening. Coach Deso shared incredible highlights from the match up:
"The #7 seed Corinth hosted #10 seed Catskill in the first round of the Class B Sectional Tournament. The game was tense from the opening minutes, each team feeling the other out, looking for holes to exploit. Catskill would be the first to strike. The Cats would earn a corner kick early on, just seven minutes into the contest, and find the back of the net to put Catskill up 1-0. The Riverhawks, no stranger to this position, maintained their composure and were able to recover from this momentary setback.
It would take another 25 minutes of pounding the pitch, battling for 50/50 balls, testing the Catskill defense time and again, before the Riverhawks would finally earn the equalizer with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. Sam Tangora would find himself on the receiving end of a deflected ball inside the box, and would hammer home a shot that would knot the score at one at halftime.
The second half was an all out, physical battle. The Riverhawk defense of Danny Hunt, Michael Petteys, Hunter Shanahan and Lucca Giaculli was tested time and time again, but held firm in staving off the thirsty Cat attack. There were moments when the Cats were able to find space and break through the defense, only to be met by Corinth keeper Owen Baker, who would make a number of spectacular, critical saves when his reflexes mattered most! The game seemed destined for overtime, but with 1:19 remaining in regulation, the Riverhawks would earn their final corner kick of the game. Sam Tangora laid a beautiful serve into the box, which was then volleyed by Hunter Shanahan to find the twine and the come-from-behind, 2-1 sectional victory for Corinth!
The Riverhawks, now 12-4-1, heads on the road to compete against Voorheesville on Saturday, October 26th at 3:00pm in the Class B Sectional quarterfinals. If you can make the trip, we would love to have your support as we take on the #2 seed in an effort to keep our season going strong! Thank you to all of the family and friends who continue to support this team, not just today, but for your loyalty throughout the season!"
Congratulations, Riverhawks! We are so proud of you! Keep up the great work!

Our Girls Varsity Soccer Team had a big win on Thursday evening! Coach Kanofsky shared game highlights:
"The Riverhawks were successful Thursday evening in their game against Hadley-Luzerne, ultimately coming up victorious with a 6-0 win. Goals this evening came from Caitlyn crossman, Kerrigan Millis, Alexis baker, Isabella Craig, and Alexis Craig.
The Riverhawks worked collectively from defense to move the ball up field after taking a few minutes to settle in. They were able to string longer passing sequences together that provided them the space to shoot. All players worked extremely hard during their time on the field. Keepers, Alexis hall and Jullianna French maintained another shutout for the Riverhawks. Keep an eye out for our post season games as we enter sectionals."
Congratulations, Riverhawks! We look forward to following you in the post season and wish you continued success!
